Intellectual Property Policy
Last updated:
Jersey Mill sells retro league-night shirts and jerseys for bowling, softball and pickleball, and a lot of what we print carries words you choose: a team name on the front, a name on the back, a number, a short line on the sleeve. That makes intellectual property a practical, everyday topic for us rather than a dusty legal one. This policy explains who owns the content on jerseymill.shop, what you may and may not do with it, how we treat other people’s names, logos and marks, and how anyone can raise a concern with us. Copyright notices have their own step-by-step page: see our DMCA and copyright notices page.
The short version, before frame one
- The Jersey Mill name, our logo, our generic retro designs, product photos and the words on this site belong to Jersey Mill.
- You are welcome to link to our pages and share products with your league. Please do not copy our photos, designs or descriptions.
- We print your own team name and your own players’ names. We do not print pro or college team names, league or association names or logos, sports brand logos, or famous players’ names.
- If a personalized order contains someone else’s trademark, we will contact you before printing and the order can be changed or cancelled.
- Report an intellectual property concern to support@jerseymill.shop with the subject “IP concern”. We reply within 24 hours on business days.
What belongs to Jersey Mill
Everything you see on jerseymill.shop was put together for this store. That includes the Jersey Mill name and logo, the “Your league, your names.” tagline, the retro designs on our shirts (pin-and-ball motifs, lane flames, diamond graphics, kitchen-line art and similar generic league-night artwork), the product photographs and illustrations, the product titles and descriptions, the size and personalization help text, our policy and help pages, and the layout, graphics and code of the site. This content is protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws.
“Mill” is simply part of our name, and nothing on this page should be read as a claim about where or how garments are produced. What we can tell you plainly is that orders ship from the USA.
Designs on our products
The artwork on our ready-to-wear shirts, tees, hoodies, hats, socks, towels and totes is generic: bowling pins, a rolling ball, a softball with curved seams, crossed bats, a pickleball paddle silhouette, two-tone chest panels, piping and pinstripes. None of it is meant to look like the colors, crest or uniform of a real team or league. If you ever think one of our designs is too close to something you own, we want to hear about it, and the reporting steps below explain how.
Text you type on personalized products
When you fill in “Team name on front”, “Name on back”, “Number”, “Sleeve text”, “Roster names for the back” or “Season or year line”, the words are yours. We do not claim ownership of your team’s name or your players’ names. You give us permission to print that text on the item you ordered, to show it in the live preview, and to keep it in your order record so we can handle changes, returns and questions. We do not reuse your text for other customers or put it in our marketing.
Ways you are welcome to use our site
We like it when a league captain drops a link in the group chat and says “pick your size by Thursday.” Here is what is fine without asking:
- Viewing, downloading and printing pages for your own personal, non-commercial use, for example printing the size guide to compare with a shirt you already own.
- Sharing links to our product pages, collections and help pages by message, email or social post.
- Sending a screenshot of a product page to your teammates so they can choose a colorway or size.
- Quoting a short extract of a page with a link back to the original, for example quoting our return window when you explain it to your team.
- Wearing, gifting and photographing the products you bought. A photo of your bowling team in matching shirts on league night is yours to post.
Uses that need our written permission
Some uses take something that belongs to us and put it to work for someone else. Please email us first, and do not go ahead unless we agree in writing:
- Copying, reproducing or republishing our product photos, designs, illustrations or descriptions, including on marketplaces, auction sites, print-on-demand platforms or other online stores.
- Reselling our designs or making new products from them, including tracing, redrawing or lightly altering them.
- Using the Jersey Mill name, logo or tagline, or anything confusingly similar, in a way that suggests we sponsor, endorse or work with you.
- Scraping, mirroring or bulk-downloading the site with automated tools. Normal indexing by search engines is fine.
- Framing our pages inside another website so that they look like part of that site.
Buying a shirt gives you the shirt, not the rights to the artwork on it. You can wear it, give it away or sell that one used shirt, but you cannot reproduce the design.
Names, logos and marks we will not print
This is the part of the policy that matters most on league night, so we explain it with examples. We can only print text and designs that you have the right to use. In practice that means your own team name, your own players’ names and numbers, and our own generic designs. We will not print, and our product pages are not meant to be used for:
- The name, logo, mascot or crest of a professional, semi-professional, college or school team.
- The name or logo of a sports league, governing body, federation or association, including bowling, softball and pickleball organisations.
- Brand names or logos of sporting goods makers, such as ball, bat, glove, paddle or shoe brands, or of any other company.
- The name, nickname, signature or likeness of a famous athlete or other public figure, unless that person is actually on your team and is the one ordering or has agreed.
- Slogans, catchphrases or characters from films, TV shows, games or music.
Three league-night situations
The pro-team tribute. A softball captain wants the team name on front to read exactly like a big-city ball club. We cannot print it. A name your team made up, with a nod to your town or your sponsor bar’s nickname that you have permission to use, works well and looks just as good in capitals across the chest.
The paddle-brand jersey. A pickleball doubles pair asks for the logo of the paddle brand they both play with on the back of their Kitchen Line jerseys. Brand logos are trademarks, so we cannot add them. The pair can still use their own names on back, a number, and the optional “Division or night” choice to show which ladder they play.
The famous bowler’s surname. A bowler wants a well-known pro bowler’s name on the back as a joke. If that is not the bowler’s own name, we will not print it. If the bowler’s real surname happens to match a famous one, that is fine: it is your own name, and you are entitled to wear it.
What happens if a personalized order includes a protected name
We do not send proofs or mockups before production; we print exactly what you type. If we notice, before printing, that the text on an order looks like someone else’s team, league, brand or player name, we will email you. You can change the text, or cancel the order for a full refund to the original payment method. If we cannot reach you, we will not print the protected text. If you want to change wording yourself, the cancel or change an order page explains the 24-hour window.
Our own trademarks
Jersey Mill, our logo and our tagline identify this store. Please do not use them for other products, shops, domain names, social accounts or ads. Other names that may appear on the site, such as the names of payment services shown at checkout or of software we use to run the store, belong to their owners. Their appearance does not mean those companies endorse us, and our mention of them does not mean we endorse them.
| Item | Who owns it | What that means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Jersey Mill name, logo, tagline | Jersey Mill | Link to us freely; do not use them to brand your own products or pages. |
| Generic retro designs on our products | Jersey Mill | Wear and gift your shirt; do not copy or resell the artwork. |
| Product photos and descriptions | Jersey Mill | Share links and screenshots with your team; do not republish them elsewhere. |
| Your team name and players’ names | You and your team | We print it only on the items you order and keep it in your order record. |
| Other teams’, leagues’, brands’ and players’ names and logos | Their owners | We do not print them, even on request. |
Respecting rights that belong to others
We aim to sell only designs that are our own and to print only text customers are entitled to use. We do not knowingly sell items that copy anyone’s trademark, copyright, design or right of publicity. If we learn that a product or page may infringe someone’s rights, we review it and remove or change it when appropriate. That applies to our ready-made designs, product photos, descriptions and to any personalized text waiting to be printed.
We also ask customers to respect each other. If a roster back tee lists 12 players, each name on it should belong to a real person on that team, spelled the way they spell it, and used with their agreement. Please do not order shirts with someone else’s name for the purpose of mocking or impersonating them.
How to raise an intellectual property concern
If you own a trademark, design, name or other right and believe something on jerseymill.shop infringes it, email support@jerseymill.shop with the subject line “IP concern”. To help us act quickly, please include:
- Your name, email address and postal address, and your relationship to the rights owner (owner, employee, legal representative).
- A description of the right you believe is infringed, for example the trademark and the country where it is registered, a registration number if you have one, or a description of your design.
- The full URL of each product or page concerned, and what on that page you are pointing to (a photo, the product title, a design, a description).
- A short explanation of why you believe it infringes your rights.
- A statement that the information in your report is accurate and that you are the rights owner or are authorised to act for them.
For copyright in particular, such as a photo or artwork you created, please use the format on our DMCA page so your notice includes everything that copyright law asks for.
What happens after you report
We reply within 24 hours on business days to confirm we have your report. We then review it and may ask a follow-up question if something is unclear, such as which product image you mean. If we agree the content infringes your rights, we remove or change it and tell you what we did. If we do not agree, we explain why. We keep a record of the report and our decision. Reports are read by the person handling support, and we do not publish them.
If your own order or content is affected
If a design you bought is later removed after a report, your order is not affected and you keep the shirt. If a personalized order is put on hold because its text may infringe someone’s rights, we email you before anything is printed, as described above.
Ideas, suggestions and feedback
Captains and players often email ideas: a new colorway for the Lane Flames shirt, a youth size in another style, a sock pattern for the pickleball crowd. We welcome them. If you send us an idea or suggestion, we may use it without paying you or crediting you, and you should not send anything you want to keep confidential. We will never publish your name, email address or photos without your permission. Photos you email us, for example of a problem with an order, are deleted 30 days after delivery, as explained in our privacy policy.
Permission requests and questions
If you would like to use something from our site, for example a product photo in a league newsletter, email support@jerseymill.shop with the subject “Permission request”, tell us what you want to use, where, and for how long, and wait for a written reply before using it. For any other question about this policy, use the same address or visit our contact page. This policy forms part of our terms of service, which are governed by the laws of Utah.
