Sizing Up Before the First Frame

A league shirt should feel easy on the approach, at the plate and at the kitchen line. This guide helps you choose by comparing with clothes you already own, rather than guessing from a label. It covers every size group we sell.

  • Unisex adult: S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL; some styles go up to 4XL. Sizes 2XL and up cost a little more.
  • Women’s fit: XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL.
  • Youth: S, M, L, XL.
  • Crew socks: S/M and L/XL.
  • Trucker hat: one size with an adjustable back. Sports towel and canvas tote: one size.
  • Wrong size? Email within 24 hours of ordering to change it, or use the 60-day return with a free return label.

Why You Will Not Find a Measurement Chart Here

We do not publish garment measurements at the moment. Rather than print numbers we cannot stand behind, this page teaches you a reliable way to choose: start from a shirt that already fits you well and compare it with the style you are looking at. It is the same thing most bowlers do when they borrow a teammate’s shirt for a night and decide whether to size up.

The size menu on each product page is the final word on which sizes that product offers. If a size is not in the menu, that style does not come in it. If you are torn between two sizes after reading this guide, email us with the product name and the two sizes and we will help you think it through.

Which Products Use Which Size Group

Every product in the catalogue belongs to one size group. Find your product in the table, then read that group’s section below.

The Shirt-You-Own Method

This is the core of choosing well without a chart. It takes five minutes and a flat surface.

  1. Pick a reference shirt. Choose one you wear often and like the fit of, ideally the same kind of garment: a button-up for a bowling shirt, a crew-neck tee for a softball crew jersey, a hoodie for the hoodie.
  2. Note its size label. Write down the size and whether it was sold as unisex, men’s, women’s or youth. Labels vary between makers, so treat this as a starting point, not a promise.
  3. Lay it flat and look at the shape. Notice how the body falls: straight and roomy, or close to the body. Notice the sleeve length and where the hem sits on you.
  4. Think about how you wear it on league night. Do you wear anything underneath? Do you roll the sleeves? Do you want it tucked or untucked?
  5. Read the product photos and description. A camp-collar bowling shirt is cut to hang straight and untucked. A raglan softball jersey has sleeves that run up to the collar, which often feels freer across the shoulders. A racerback or muscle tank sits differently from a tee.
  6. Choose and note your reason. If your reference shirt is an L and you like it roomy, start at L. If you want more room for a layer, look one size up.

Choosing Within Each Size Group

Unisex adult: bowling shirts, jerseys, tees and hoodies

Unisex adult sizing is the broadest group and covers most of the catalogue. It is cut to suit a wide range of bodies, which usually means a straighter, slightly roomier shape than a fitted shirt. If you normally buy fitted shirts, a unisex adult in your usual size may feel looser; that is often exactly what a bowler wants for a full arm swing. If you normally buy relaxed shirts, your usual size is a sensible start.

Bowling shirts are worn untucked over trousers or jeans, so look at where a favourite untucked shirt ends on you. Softball jerseys need room to swing and throw. Pickleball tops should let you reach for a lob without riding up. Sizes 2XL and up cost a little more, and some styles stop at 3XL while others go up to 4XL; the size menu shows which.

Women’s fit: the V-neck styles

Women’s fit styles follow a shape with more definition at the waist and a different shoulder than the unisex adult cut, in sizes XS to 2XL. Compare with a women’s fit tee or top you already own rather than a unisex one.

Take the softball player deciding between the Women’s V-Neck Fastpitch Jersey and the unisex Diamond Raglan jersey. If she likes a closer fit and a V-neck, the women’s fit is the natural choice, sized against her favourite women’s fit tee. If she prefers a looser shirt over a layer, or wants to match teammates in the raglan, the unisex adult cut makes sense. In that case, compare with a unisex tee she already owns rather than converting from her women’s fit size, because the two size runs are not the same.

Youth: softball jerseys for younger players

Youth sizes run S, M, L and XL. The best reference is a shirt the child wears right now and is comfortable in, not one bought a season ago. Lay it flat and compare its shape with the product photos.

A parent buying a Custom Youth Softball Jersey should also think about the season ahead. Children can grow a lot between opening day and the last game, and spring evenings often mean a long-sleeve layer underneath. If the current shirt is already snug, or the child is between sizes, the next size up usually gives the jersey a longer life. A teenager who has outgrown youth XL may be ready for a unisex adult style; compare with an adult shirt they already wear.

Socks: two sizes to choose from

Crew socks come in S/M and L/XL. Pick the size that matches the sock size you usually buy. If your everyday socks are sold as a range, choose the one that covers your shoe size on that range. If you sit right at the line between the two, think about how you like socks to feel: a closer hug on the calf, or a little more give.

Trucker hat: one size, adjustable back

The trucker hat is one size with an adjustable back, so there is nothing to choose. Set the strap to your head when it arrives. If you plan to wear it over longer hair tied back, loosen the back before you try it on.

Sports towel and canvas tote

Both are one size. The towel suits the bench or the ball return; the tote carries shoes, a paddle or a spare shirt.

Layers, Lanes and Cold Ball Fields

League nights do not all happen in the same weather. Think about what you will wear with the shirt before you choose its size.

  • Over a long-sleeve layer: early-season softball and outdoor pickleball often mean a layer underneath. Compare with a shirt you already wear over a layer, or consider one size up.
  • Over a tee: some bowlers wear a camp-collar shirt open over a tee. If that is your style, look for a reference shirt you wear the same way.
  • Under the hoodie: if the League Night Pullover Hoodie goes over a jersey on the walk in, the hoodie usually wants to be your normal hoodie size, not your jersey size.
  • Indoor courts and warm alleys: if you will only ever wear the shirt on its own, your usual size is the safer start.

We do not list fabric names or weights here. If you have a question about how a particular style feels or hangs, email us and we will share what we can.

Ordering Sizes for a Whole Team

Captains have the hardest sizing job, because they are choosing for people who are not standing next to them. A few habits help.

Collect sizes in writing

Ask each player to send their size by message, and ask which size group they want where there is a choice. A quick note like “unisex XL” or “women’s fit M” saves a lot of guesswork.

Send everyone this page

Share the link to this guide in your team chat so players can do the shirt-you-own check themselves before telling you their size.

One cart line per player

Each player is one cart line with its own size. A bowling captain ordering five Custom Team Bowling Shirts picks five sizes, one per line. If six hours after ordering you learn that one bowler needs a 3XL instead of an XL, email us; that is inside the 24-hour change window and we will update the line. If you only learn it three days later, the 60-day return covers the swap: return the XL and order a 3XL.

Matching across size groups

A co-ed team can mix unisex adult and women’s fit styles, and a family team can add youth sizes. Check the product names carefully so everyone gets the cut they asked for.

Sizing a Gift Without Spoiling the Surprise

Buying for someone else is the trickiest sizing job of all, because you cannot ask them to try anything on. Say you are ordering a League Night Pullover Hoodie and a Pin & Ball sock pair for a partner’s birthday, shipped to another US address.

  • Borrow a reference quietly. Check the size label on a hoodie or sweatshirt they already wear and like, and note whether it is unisex or women’s fit.
  • Match sock size to their shoes. A glance at their everyday socks or shoe size tells you whether S/M or L/XL is the better pick.
  • When in doubt, go roomy on the hoodie. A slightly relaxed hoodie is usually easier to live with than a tight one.
  • Tell them about returns. If the size misses, the 60-day return with a free return label means the gift can be swapped without fuss.
